One of the most iconic, enduring & celebrated images of all time, this Italian fresco by the Renaissance master Michelangelo, lives on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. It depicts the Biblical act of creation from the Book of Genesis in which God grants life to Adam. God, covered in a billowing red robe, extends a finger towards Adam who reaches back in an attempt to touch it. Many have interpreted the lack of contact between the two fingers to represent mankind’s inability & failure to attain divine perfection.
