A work by the father of conceptual art, the Monte Carlo Bonds were legal documents produced by Duchamp’s experiment of repeatedly wagering endless dice throws at the Monte Carlo Casino, relying solely on random chance in order to eventually make a profit through an excruciatingly yet hilariously slow process. The bonds, designed by Duchamp, were intended to procure investors in this comically difficult endeavour and featured many eccentric touches to drive the point home. While these were legally recognized documents, they existed solely to mock & ridicule the intentional obfuscations in the world of gambling and finance as opposed to indulging them.
