Mentioned in the writings of the Late Renaissance art Biographer Giorgio Vasari, it was written that this self-portrait was crafted by Parmigianino to showcase his artistry and technical prowess to potential patrons. Depicting the artist in his early 20s, it uses an unconventional perspective for the era, utilizing a convex mirror to round the image outwards. The painting itself was rendered onto a special convex canvas to faithfully replicate the curve of the mirror used by the artist. It is now housed in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, Austria.
