Now at the The Louvre, in Paris, France, this French portrait of Louis XIV represents an elder King at the height of his splendor. Aged 63 yet dressed in the robes he was coronated in years ago, Louis XIV stands tall upon a raised platform with his body  confidently in full view. The red drapery framing him adds much dramatic effect to the top and the blue fleur-de-lis pattern dominates the bottom half of the painting. His crown & throne lie untouched, emphasizing that he does not need his regalia to be a King.
