Now housed at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy, this Renaissance piece was made by Italian sculptor & painter Andrea del Verrocchio and his more well-known pupil Leonardo da Vinci. A Biblical scene, this picture portrays the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist. The painting was done in two methods, using tempera and oil, the latter of which was da Vinci’s preferred choice of paint. It is for this reason that the angels to the left of Jesus and the entire landscape are attributed to da Vinci, since they are done in oil while the rest is tempera.
